Full casting announced for 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' at the National

The new production follows the reclusive Laura Hoff (LV), who hides away in her bedroom listening to records that feature musical greats, learning to impersonate their iconic voices.

Full casting has been announced for Jim Cartwright’s The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which begins performances in the National's Dorfman theatre on 2 December, running through 23 January 2027.

Directed by Deputy Artistic Director Robert Hastie, the new production follows the reclusive Laura Hoff (LV), who hides away in her bedroom listening to records that feature musical greats, learning to impersonate their iconic voices. When her mother's new love interest hears LV's voice, she is sent into the spotlight and develops a voice of her own.

As previously announced, Francesca Mills (Silent Witness, Hamlet) will play the title role of Little Voice, with BAFTA Award winner Paul Chuckle (The Madam Blanc Mysteries) as Mr Boo and Olivier Award winner Jill Halfpenny (The Long Shadow) as Mari Hoff.

They are joined by Beverly Rudd (Trollied) as Sadie, Daniel Ryan (The Bay) as Ray Say, Adonis Siddique (Withnail and I) as Billy, and Noel White (Hamlet) as Telephone Man and understudy Ray Say/Mr Boo.

Completing the company are Alice Croft (ensemble and understudy Little Voice), Kofi Dennis (ensemble and understudy Billy/Telephone Man), and Nicky Swift (ensemble and understudy Mari Hoff/Sadie).

Following its run at the National Theatre, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice will go on a UK tour.

The creative team also includes set and costume designer Janet Bird; lighting designer Paul Pyant; sound designer Mike Walker; composer and music director David Shrubsole; movement director Ira Mandela Siobhan; fight and intimacy director Bethan Clark; dialect coach Hazel Holder, and voice coach Zoe Littleton.
