Gabrielle Brooks to play Ti Moune in ‘Once on This Island’

The Olivier-nominated actress will lead the production. Once on This Island runs for five weeks at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Oh gods, they heard our prayers! Gabrielle Brooks will play Ti Moune in Once on This Island this summer. Once on This Island begins previews at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre on 10 May, with an opening night on 17 May, and performances to 10 June.

Brooks received an Olivier nomination for playing Rita Marley in Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical. She’s joined by Stephenson Ardern-Sodje as Daniel Beauxhomme. The full casting will be revealed at a later date.

Once on This Island follows peasant girl Ti Moune who falls for a wealthy man named Daniel Beauxhomme. At the same time, she has to balance the Gods: Asaka (mother of the Earth), Agwé: (god of water), Erzulie: (goddess of love), and Papa Ge (demon of death).

Ola Ince directs, with design by Georgia Lowe, costume design by Melissa Simon-Hartman, lighting design by Jessica Hung Han Yun, and sound design by Nick Lidster.

The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre season includes Robin Hood: The Legend. Re-written, and Timothy Sheader directing La Cage aux Folles. Find out more about the 2023 season.
