Hairspray

Hairspray rescheduled from April 2021 at the London Coliseum

Michael Ball will reprise his Olivier Award-winning role as Edna Turnblad in this 19-week run.

The highly-anticipated production of Hairspray starring Michael Ball in a return to his Olivier-winning role as Edna Turnblad has announced that it will now play at the London Coliseum from April 2021. The production was initially scheduled for September 2020 but has been postponed due to the COVID-19 government guidelines. The musical will now have its first preview on the 22 April 2021 and will run until 28 August 2021.

"Just like Edna's famous roll-on foundation garments, it's been a struggle but it's finally going on, and I couldn't be more thrilled," Ball said in a statement. "Hairspray is the perfect show to help the West End rediscover its joy, energy, talent and relevance. Nothing says "we made it through" better than sitting in a theatre, watching a community facing the huge social issues of their day and conquer them with the help of family, friends, commitment and love....oh and some brilliant songs, spectacular dance routines and huge belly laughs. It's just the antidote we need. See you there."

Ball originated the role of Edna Turnblad on the West End in 2007, winning an Olivier for his performance. This revival production will also reunite Ball with the musical's original director and choreographer Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell. Cast members Paul Merton, Rita Somons, Marisha Wallace, and Lizzie Bea will also return with the show.

All ticket holders for this smash-hit musical will have the option to move their tickets as a priority until 26 July. Customers who booked through ticket agents will be contacted by their point of purchase. Public booking reopens on 27 July.
