Casting has been announced for the return of Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is set to open at the Barbican later this year.

Robert Tripolino, who recently starred in the Hope Mill Theatre production of Rags, will play Jesus while Richard Afonso, whose previous West End appearances include Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Top Hat, will play Judas.

Sallay Garnett, the Irish-Sierra Leonean artist who releases records under the name Loah, will play Mary, while 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle, who has appeared on stage in Memphis and Strictly Ballroom, will play Pilate.

They will be joined by Cavin Cornwall who reprises his role as Caiaphas from the original Open Air Theatre production, and Nathan Amzi (Disney's Aladdin, Heathers the Musical) as Annas.

Directed by Timothy Sheader with designs by Tom Scutt and choreographed by Drew McOnie, the production won the Olivier Award for best musical revival when it opened in 2016 starring Tyrone Huntley and Declan Bennett. The production returned to the Open Air Theatre in 2017, and transferred to the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 2018.

Jesus Christ Superstar is at the Barbican from 4th July to 24th August.
