'Next to Normal' to transfer to the West End
The critically acclaimed Donmar Warehouse production of Next to Normal will transfer to the West End next summer for a 14-week limited run.
The Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical will transfer to the West End next year for a strictly limited 14-week run. Next to Normal will play at the Wyndham's Theatre from 18 June 2024, with a press night on 26 June 2024.
In a four-star review on London Theatre, our critic said: "This courageous and deeply moving piece provides ecstasy as well as agony, light as well as darkness."
The musical features music by Tom Kitt and a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. They were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Original Score for their work on the show. Michael Longhurst, Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, directs this production.
"Some stories pierce the heart of the human condition: Tom and Brian's astonishing musical does just that - facing our deepest vulnerabilities whilst celebrating our capacity to endure," Longhurst said in a statement. "The outpouring of emotion from audiences at the Donmar was incredible: you could hear audible sobs before they surged to their feet every single night - like nothing I've experienced. Tickets were impossible to come by, so I am beyond thrilled that more people will now be able to experience the work of this extraordinary creative team."
The creative team also includes music supervision by Nigel Lilley, design by Chloe Lamford, lighting by Lee Curran, sound design by Tony Gayle, movement, choreography and additional direction by Ann Yee, video by Tal Rosner, musical direction by Nick Barstow, production management by Chris Hay and casting by Anna Cooper.
Next to Normal explores the challenges of mental illness and grief as a suburban family tries to find normalcy in the face of extraordinary circumstances.
The cast at the Donmar Warehouse included Caissie Levy (Frozen) as Diana Goodman, Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton) as Dr Madden/Dr Fine, Jack Ofrecio (From Here to Eternity) as Henry, Jamie Parker (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as Dan, Jack Wolfe (Shadow and Bone) as Gabe, and Eleanor Worthington-Cox (The Secret Life of Bees) as Natalie.
