The West End premiere of Aaron Sorkin's To Kill a Mockingbird will now open at the Gielgud Theatre in a year's time. Rafe Spall will now star in the production as Atticus Finch, with performances from 10 Mar. 2022.

Based on Harper Lee's 1961 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, To Kill a Mockingbird tells of a court case in 1930s Alabama, told through the eyes of a child. Lawyer Atticus Finch represents and defends Tom Robinson, a black man on rape charges, with the court case exploring racial tension and the justice system.

Rafe Spall will now play Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, taking over the role from the previously announced Rhys Ifans. Spall recently starred in Death of England at the National Theatre, but has also given Olivier Award-nominated performances in Hedda Gabler and Constellations.

Further casting for To Kill a Mockingbird is to be announced.

The production will begin previews at the Gielgud Theatre on 10 Mar. 2022, ahead of an opening night on 31 Mar. 2022.

To Kill a Mockingbird is adapted by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Bartlett Sher. The production made its Broadway debut at the Shubert Theatre in December 2018 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards. Design is by Miriam Buether, with costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Jennifer Tipton, sound by Scott Lehrer and an original score by Adam Guettel.

To Kill a Mockingbird is at the Gielgud Theatre from 10 Mar. 2022.
