Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel are "opening up" at the Adelphi
Best known for her hit songs 'Love Song' and 'Brave', Bareilles reprises the role of Jenna in London, making her West end debut in the role. She's previously starred as Jenna on three separate engagements, as well as playing Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert.
She's starring alongside Gavin Creel as Dr. Pomatter, who returns to the West End after his Olivier Award-winning performance as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon.
After appearing in the Broadway production together for a four-week engagement, Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel first performed in the West End transfer of Waitress on 20th January 2020. The pair will now continue performing in Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre to 21st March.
The current cast of Waitress stars Marisha Wallace as Becky, Evelyn Hoskins as Dawn, Andrew Boyer as Old Joe, Joel Montague as Ogie and Tamlyn Henderson as Earl.
The cast is completed by Piers Bate, Cindy Belliot, Olivia Moore, Ben Morris, Nathaniel Morrison, Rosemary Nkrumah, Sarah O'Connor, Leanne Pinder, Matthew Rowland, Laura Selwood, Richard Taylor Woods, Lucia De Wan, Mark Willshire and Madison Worley.
Based on a 2007 film by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress tells the story of small-town waitress and pie maker Jenna Hunterson, who falls in love with her gynaecologist, Dr. Pomatter, while she's pregnant. To start a new life for her and her child, she enters a baking competition to win a cash prize. Waitress features an original score by Grammy Award-nominated artist Sara Bareilles, with songs including "She Used To Be Mine" and "The Negative".
In a feature for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Tom Millward said Bareilles' "irresistible mezzo-soprano vocals evoke a wistful sense of vulnerability that makes her perfect casting for the role."
Waitress is at the Adelphi Theatre to 4th July 2020.
Waitress tickets are available now.
