Stephen Mangan to play Ebenezer Scrooge in ‘A Christmas Carol’

The Old Vic's Christmas hit returns for a fifth year.

Stephen Mangan will lead the cast of A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic this festive season, returning for a fifth year. A Christmas Carol is at the Old Vic from 13 November - 8 January. 

Mangan returns to the West End to play Ebenezer Scrooge. He has previously been in plays such as The Man in the White Suit and The Birthday Party. He's joined by Jack Shalloo as Bob Cratchit, Bridgette Amofah as Mrs Cratchit, Amanda Hadingue as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Rachel John as Ghost of Christmas Present, Mrs Fezziwig, Andrew Langtree as Father/Jacob Marley and James Staddon as Fezziwig. 

Additional casting includes Geraint Downing as Ferdy/George, Nicola Espallardo as Jess, Karen Fishwick as Belle, Nick Hart as Nicholas, Oli Higginson as Fred, Rose Shalloo as Little Fan and Samuel Townsend as Young Ebenezer. Full casting is to be revealed. 

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was first adapted by Jack Thorne in 2017, following three spirits who visit Ebenezer Scrooge to warn him of his ways. A Christmas Carol has been staged at the Old Vic every year since 2017, and has even transferred to Broadway.

Matthew Warchus directs A Christmas Carol, with scenic and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, sound design and video design by Simon Baker and movement by Lizzi Gee.

A Christmas Carol is at the Old Vic from 13 November - 8 January.
