The Prince of Egypt to receive West End premiere at the Dominion Theatre
Based on the 1998 DreamWorks animation film of the same name, The Prince of Egypt dramatises the story of Moses. Born a child of Israel, Moses grows up to become an Egyptian prince, later leading the Israelites out of Egypt, as told in the Book of Exodus. The film featured the voice acting of Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock and Patrick Stewart and was subsequently nominated for 15 awards, winning best animated feature at the Critics Choice Awards.
The world premiere of The Prince of Egypt was performed in 2017 at TheatreWorks in Silicon Valley, California, with the European premiere staged at the Fredericia Teater in Denmark the following year.
The upcoming production marks the musical’s British premiere, which will feature the award-winning song “When You Believe” sung by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, winning best original song at the 1999 Academy Awards. The show will also have musical numbers from the film including “Deliver Us” and “Through Heaven’s Eyes” as well as 10 new songs written for the London premiere.
Music and lyrics for The Prince of Egypt are by Stephen Schwartz, with an original book by Philip LaZebnik, choreography by Sean Cheesman and direction by Scott Schwartz. Further details on casting and a full creative team are to be announced.
The Prince of Egypt tickets will go on sale at 10am on 3rd June.
