Toby Jones and Richard Armitage to star in Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre

Following the previous news that Toby Jones and Richard Armitage will star in a revival of Uncle Vanya, details have been confirmed of the upcoming production of Uncle Vanya to be staged at the Harold Pinter Theatre next year.

Uncle Vanya tickets will be on sale from 27th September, via an exclusive pre-sale with LondonTheatre.co.uk.

Originally written by Anton Chekhov, following Sonya and her uncle Vanya in a countryside estate, with their local doctor Astrov visiting regularly. When Sonya's father to the estate with a new wife, the relationship between Vanya and Astrov becomes strained, especially when they fall for the same woman.

The upcoming production of Uncle Vanya will see a new adaptation by Conor McPherson, with previous writing credits including The Weir, The Seafarer and Girl From the North Country, which will be revived at the Gielgud Theatre later this year.

Olivier Award-winning actor Toby Jones will play the titular character of Uncle Vanya, currently starring in Glass. Kill. Bluebeard. Imp at the Royal Court. Previous credits include The Birthday Party at the Harold Pinter Theatre, The Play What I Wrote and Every Good Boy Deserves Favour at the National Theatre.  

Richard Armitage will play Astrov, previously starring as John Proctor in The Crucible at the Old Vic, receiving an Olivier Award nomination. Notable performing credits across stage and screen include Thorin in The Hobbit, Daniel Miller in Berlin Station and the off-Broadway play Love Love Love.

Further casting for Uncle Vanya is to be announced.

The creative team for Uncle Vanya includes direction by Ian Rickson, design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Bruno Poet and sound design by Ian Dickinson.

Uncle Vanya will begin previews at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 14th January 2020, with an official opening night on 23rd January 2020. Uncle Vanya will run for 16 weeks to 2nd May 2020.
