Touching The Void to transfer to Duke of York’s Theatre

Following a world premiere production at the Bristol Old Vic in 2018 and performances earlier this year, Touching The Void will transfer to the Duke of York's Theatre, it has been announced.

Based on Joe Simpson's 1988 memoir of the same name and adapted for the stage by David Greig, the play details real-life events of Joe Simpson and Simon Yates who scaled the previously unclimbed West Face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. As their lives quickly came into danger, Simpson and Yates have to work together in order to pull one another safety, with each decision making the difference between life and death.

Touching The Void is directed by Tom Morris, whose previous directorial credits include the critically-acclaimed War Horse at the National Theatre, The Grinning Man at Trafalgar Studios and Bristol Old Vic productions of The Crucible and King Lear.

On directing Touching The Void at Bristol's Old Vic, Tom Morris said: "This production has been an extraordinary journey into the unknown, inspired by one of the most compelling books I've ever opened. Simpson's story drove my imagination wild with fear, excitement and hope. We hope this show will do the same for yours."  

The world premiere of Touching The Void starred Josh Williams as Joe, Edward Hayter as Simon, Josh Williams as Joe, Fiona Hampton as Sarah and Patrick McNamee as Richard. 

Casting for the West End transfer of Touching The Void is to be announced.

Touching The Void is at the Duke of York's Theatre from 9th November to 29th February 2020.
