Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 is set to do-si-do its way into the West End next January, starring Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies and Natalie McQueen, here's everything you need to know about the musical before you buy tickets for its West End premiere.

What is 9 to 5?

The musical is adapted from a 1980 movie written and directed by Colin Higgins starring Dolly Parton. The country music legend wrote her now-signature song for the film, which has been voted one of the funniest 100 American films.

In 2009, Parton adapted the film for the stage, writing a number of songs for a musical production. Following a try-out in Los Angeles, the musical opened on Broadway in 2009 and went on to tour the US. In London, the show has been seen as part of a UK tour, and a fringe production ran Upstairs at the Gatehouse in 2017.

What's the story?

Though first seen in the '80s, this feminist story is a timely one. It revolved around three female office workers who are oppressed by their bigoted, sexist boss who makes their lives hell in a toxic working environment. Together, the women fantasise about what a better life might look like, and take matters into their own hands to usurp upon their boss' power.

Who's in it?

9 to 5 in the West End is set to star Louise Redknapp, Brian Conley, Natalie McQueen and Amber Davies.

Louise Redknapp shot to fame as part of pop group Eternal, who stormed the charts in the 90s with such as "Stay", "Just a Step From Heaven" and "So Good". Her career has seen her launch a solo career, reach the final of Strictly Come Dancing, and star in the UK touring production of Cabaret opposite Will Young.

Brian Conley is an Olivier Award-nominated actor who has starred in productions of Jolson, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hairspray and Oliver. He's also a panto favourite across the UK (he's played Buttons in Cinderella for 17 of the last 25 years!)

Natalie McQueen is currently starring in the West End production of Kinky Boots as Lauren. Her previous musical theatre credits include Les Miserables, Starlight Express and Wonderland.

Amber Davies is best-known for winning the 2017 series of the ITV reality show Love Island with partner Kem. She trained in musical theatre, and 9 to 5 will be her West End debut.

Dolly wrote many of the songs specifically for the musical, and was nominated for a Tony Award and Grammy Award for her efforts. However, there are a number of her well-known folk anthems thrown in the mix throughout the show.
