About Apollo Victoria Theatre

The Apollo Victoria Theatre first opened as the New Victoria Cinema in 1930, and housed films, variety acts, and big bands. Closing at the start of World War II, the theatre reopened in May 1941 and shows continued to entertain audiences until it closed in 1976.

The theatre reopened in 1981 with a Shirley Bassey concert. Since then, musicals at the Apollo Victoria Theatre include The Sound of Music starring Petula Clark, and an 18-year run of Starlight Express boasting a redesigned auditorium to allow for race tracks to go through the audience. Wicked opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006.

The auditorium has two levels - Stalls and Dress Circle. This is a very wide auditorium. The overhang of the Dress Circle affects the view of the top of the stage from seats in Row Y and onwards.

The Dress Circle in this theatre is very deep, though the view is still excellent and the spectacle of the current production is still very much apparent from these seats.

Additional information

Venue opens 90 minutes prior to the performance with bars, kiosks and toilet facilities available. Auditorium opens for seating 55 minutes prior to the performance. Latecomers can only be admitted into the auditorium at a suitable break in the performance, which is approximately 25 minutes after curtain-up.

  • Train: Victoria Station is the nearest train station, directly opposite the theatre, just a one-minute walk away. National Rail services connect to various stations across the South East.
  • Tube: The nearest tube station is Victoria Station, served by the Victoria, Circle, and District lines.
  • Bus: Victoria Coach Station is nearby, with coaches to and from major UK cities. Regular bus services are available at Victoria bus station, directly outside the mainline train station and adjacent to the theatre.
  • Car: The nearest car parks are MasterPark at Rochester Row and NCP Car Park at Semley Place. Note that the theatre is located in a red zone, so there is no street parking outside the venue.
  • Rideshare: Rideshare services such as Uber, Bolt, and FreeNow are available in London for convenient drop-off and pick-up near the theatre.
  • Cycle: Santander Cycle Hire, Lime, Human Forest, and Tier bikes are available 24/7, all year round. Simply pick up a bike, ride to your destination, and return it.

Wheelchair access

  • There are 4 wheelchair positions located at either end of Row F in the Circle, accessed via two platform lifts from the Vauxhall Bridge Road entrance. The accessible toilet is located in the main foyer near the cloakroom.
  • Limited stairs / stair-free access is available in Row F of the Dress Circle via platform lifts. Aim to arrive 30-45 minutes before the performance for lift access.
  • Mobility scooters cannot use the platform lifts but can be stored in the foyer.

  • The Sennheiser MobileConnect sound amplification system is available throughout the auditorium. Devices can be borrowed, or patrons can use their own smart devices.
  • Audio description, touch tours, and large print and Braille cast lists are available. Request these services at the time of booking.
