About His Majesty’s Theatre

A theatre has stood on the site of His Majesty's Theatre since 1705. This incarnation of His Majesty’s Theatre opened in 1897. The theatre changed names from Her Majesty's Theatre to His Majesty's Theatre on 6 May 2023, in line with King Charles III's Coronation.

The His Majesty's Theatre auditorium is appropriately scaled to house musicals. Throughout the 20th century, a host of musicals played at Her Majesty's Theatre: Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, Bye Bye Birdie, West Side Story, On The Twentieth Century, Fiddler on the Roof and Bugsy Malone.

The theatre’s current tenant is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, which opened in October 1986 and is the theatre’s longest-running production. His Majesty's Theatre is currently owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Theatres Group.

The auditorium has four levels – Stalls, Royal Circle, Grand Circle and Balcony.

Views from the Stalls are very good. Other than the front row, the legroom is good throughout the Stalls.

The Royal Circle offers good views of the stage. The overhang of the Grand Circle could affect the view from seats in Row E onwards.

The Balcony's sharp rake of the seating ensures good views.

How to get to His Majesty’s Theatre

  • Train or Tube: The nearest underground stations are Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines) and Charing Cross (Northern and Bakerloo lines). The nearest station with step-free access is Green Park, approximately 1km away.
  • Bus: London bus routes 6, 13, 15, 23, 139, 159, 453 serve the area.
  • Car: The nearest car parks are in St Martin’s Street and Trafalgar Square. Customers with access requirements can be dropped directly in front of the theatre on Haymarket or on Charles II Street for level access. Blue Badge parking bays are available on Charles II Street.
  • Rideshare: Rideshare services such as Uber, Bolt, and FreeNow are available in London for convenient drop-off and pick-up near the theatre.
  • Cycle: Santander Cycle Hire, Lime, Human Forest, and Tier bikes are available 24/7, all year round. Simply pick up a bike, ride to your destination, and return it.

Wheelchair access

  • The Stalls have level access via Charles II Street, with dedicated non-transferable wheelchair positions in rows E, J, and M. Transferable seats are also available on the aisles. Wheelchairs and scooters can be stored in the foyer.
  • There is an accessible toilet at the rear of the Stalls, with level access via Charles II Street.
  • Blue Badge parking bays are available on Charles II Street. Drop-off points are available directly in front of the theatre on Haymarket.

Vision and hearing enhancements

  • An Infra-Red audio enhancement system is available. Headsets and hearing aid loops can be requested from Front of House staff. The theatre also hosts periodic accessible performances, including Audio-described, Captioned, BSL Interpreted, and Relaxed performances.
