Though she will not appear on stage, Tina Turner worked on Tina - The Musical which had its world premiere at the Aldwych Theatre. She worked with Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd at the helm.

Anna Mae Bullock was born in the small Tennessee town of Nutbush in 1939. After dreaming of becoming a nurse, Turner started singing with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, after visiting the Manhattan Club in St Louis. Her career started in the ‘60s as the Ike and Tine Turner Revue took off. They had a string of hits including "A Fool in Love", "River Deep – Mountain High” and "Proud Mary". Ike and Tina parted ways in 1976, and divorced two years later.

Tina then pursued a solo career, becoming known for her energetic live performances. In the ‘80s, she made a comeback with songs like “Let's Stay Together”, "What's Love Got to Do with It” and “I Don’t Wanna Fight”. She was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986. Over her illustrious career, Turner has won eight Grammy Awards from 21 total nominations. Between 1974 and 1999, Turner recorded 10 studio albums.  Her career has included the hits "Typical Male”, "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)”, and “The Best”. One of her big hits later in her career was “GoldenEye”, composed by U2 for the James Bond film of the same name.

Turner’s live performances have become world renowned. In 1988, alongside Paul McCartney, Turner performed for the largest paying audience - approximately 184,000 people at the Maracana Stadium in Brazil. In 2000, Guinness World Records announced that Turner has sold more concert tickets than any other performer.
