In the brand-new musical, Coven, be transported back to 1612 to Pendle, where England’s most notorious witch trials are unfolding. Book Coven tickets on London Theatre.
Coven is a powerful women-led musical that tells the story of 9-year-old Jennet, who accuses her family of witchcraft. 21 years later, she finds herself accused; she’s imprisoned with witches she’s been taught to fear. As she hears their stories, she begins to question her faith and examine the long history of witchcraft. Together, 13 women rise above all that seeks to silence them.
Coven is a musical filled with folk-noir music, featuring instruments such as mandolin, percussion, guitar, and even an angry banjo, as seen in songs like “She” and “Burn Our Bodies.” The show perfectly balances uplifting anthems alongside powerful melodies.
The excellent cast includes Allyson Ava-Brown, Rachel Barnes, Gabrielle Brooks, Shiloh Coke, Rosalind Ford, Penny Layden, Holly Mallett, Lauryn Redding, Kathryn Tindall, Diana Vickers, Jacinta Whyte, and Jennifer Whyte.
Coven in London has a talented creative team, which includes book by Rebecca Brewer and music and lyrics by Rebecca Brewer and Daisy Chute. Together, they’ve spent over five years developing this musical.
The creative team also includes Olivier Award-winning director Miranda Cromwell, set and costume designer Jasmine Swan, lighting designer Zeynep Kepekli, sound designer Helen Atkinson, music supervisor Jennifer Whyte, choreographer Shelley Maxwell, and puppetry director Laura Cubitt.
Artistic director and CEO of Kiln Theatre, Amit Sharma, said: “Coven is unlike anything we’ve staged at Kiln before! With this phenomenal cast on stage along with an incredible creative team, Coven is a real celebration of female-led storytelling, live music, and theatrical magic. We’re so proud to premiere it here with our brilliant producing partners and, with the extension announced too, can’t wait to share it with audiences this autumn!”
