About Maggots

An impactful and thought-provoking new play by Tony Craze Award winner Farah Najib comes to Bush Theatre. Maggots is a tale of isolation, community, and connection. Book Maggots tickets on London Theatre.

Maggots is a play that tells the story of a group of neighbours who are forced to come together when the stench and infestation in their building intensifies, while the housing association does little to help. These neighbours must confront their suspicions and fears, and in the process, this moving production questions what it takes to build community.

As writer Farah Najib explained, “It explores the epidemic of loneliness in London, and the ways that human beings are unfortunately frequently neglected by the powers that be - powers that are often reinforcing structural inequalities rather than fighting them. But there’s plenty of hope in the play too - a group of people coming together, and breaking down the boundaries between them in the face of difficult circumstances.”

This play was staged at Lion and Unicorn Theatre for a brief run at the beginning of 2024. As the London Pub Theatres review said, “Full of pathos and quiet fury, this play will crawl under your skin and feast on your conscience.”

This staging at Bush Theatre stars Sam Baker Jones (BBC’s upcoming Dear England), Safiyya Ingar (The Witcher), and Marcia Lecky (EastEnders).

Maggots in London also boasts an excellent creative team, including director Jess Barton, set and costume designer Caitlin Mawhinney, lighting designer Peter Small, composer and sound designer Duramaney Kamara, and produced by Jessie Anand Productions.

For a touching story of what it means to create community and connection in this day and age, look no further than Maggots at the Bush Theatre.
