After winning Pop Idol at the tender age of 18, Gates has sold over 3.5 million records worldwide. His first theatrical appearance was in 2008, playing Robbie in a preview of Stiles and Drewe’s Soho Cinders.
His West End debut came the following year, taking over the role of Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Adelphi Theatre for three months. In 2009, Gates was cast as Marius in the world tour of Les Miserables, later joining the West End production from October 2010 to June 2011.
