Ben Whishaw, Kathryn Hunter, Rachel Tucker and more to star in 2026-27 Young Vic season

The season will kick off with a new musical of Thelma and Louise, starring Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker, with book by Callie Khouri and music and lyrics by Neko Case.

Ben Whishaw, Kathryn Hunter, Amy Lennox, and Rachel Tucker are among the stars of the Young Vic's 2026-27 season.

The season will kick off with a new musical of Thelma and Louise, starring Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker, with book by Callie Khouri and music and lyrics by Neko Case. Directed by Trip Cullman, the show will run at the Young Vic from 3 September to 24 October and follows Thelma and Louise on a spontaneous weekend getaway, which turns their friendship into something dangerous and unbreakable.

Next up in the Main House is the premiere of the English language adaptation of Eurotrash, starring Ben Whishaw and Kathryn Hunter as a mother and son who embark on a road trip through the Swiss Alps. This new adaptation of Christian Kracht’s novel is by Colin Teevan, and directed by Walter Meierjohann. The show runs from 13 November through 9 January 2027.

Tiago Rodrigues presents the UK premiere of his intimate and inventive play La Distance, with original cast members Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop reprising their roles as father and daughter in this new play set in 2077, with the earth on the brink of collapse. It runs in the Main House from 22 January to 13 February 2027.

Olivier and BAFTA Award winner debbie tucker green writes and directs the world premiere of dissent, a new play about humanity's capacity for monstrous behaviour. It runs from 5 March to 24 April 2027.

Young Vic Artistic Director and Chief Executive Nadia Fall directs the first UK staging in 20 years of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, which follows Citizen Barlow, a man seeking redemption for sin. The show runs from 14 May to 10 July 2027.

The Maria Studio is now in its second year of programming, and will open the 2026-27 season with Shedinburgh, which heads to the Young Vic from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The immersive venue will be re-built in the Maria to showcase the work of artists including Inua Ellams, Sara Pascoe, Bryony Kimmings and Rosie Jones. The programme of performances will span theatre, music, comedy, and more, with all shows announced next month. The residency runs from 19 September - 10 October.

Ewa Dina makes her Young Vic debut directing Theresa Ikoko’s award-winning play Girls, which is set in Nigeria during the 2014 militant insurrection when hundreds of girls were kidnapped from their homes. The show runs from 22 October - 21 November.

Further programming for the Maria Studio will be announced in the autumn.
