Directed by Caitríona McLaughlin, the play tells the story of a village in Ireland that is upended by the arrival of a young man who claims to have killed his father.

The world premiere of new musical [*Coven*](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/show/43792-coven) has extended performances at the Kiln Theatre in London ahead of performances beginning at the venue on 31 October. The production will now run until 17 January 2026.

*Coven* has music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning Daisy Chute and Rebecca Brewer, who is also book writer. Directed by Olivier Award winner Miranda Cromwell, *Coven* is based on England’s most notorious witch trials in the 17th century.

The cast includes Allyson Ava-Brown (Nell/Elizabeth), Rachel Barnes (Ensemble), Gabrielle Brooks (Jenet), Shiloh Coke (Frances/Alizon), Rosalind Ford (King James / Ensemble), Alice Gruden (Ensemble), Penny Layden (Martha/Judge), Holly Mallett (Ensemble), Lauryn Redding (Rose), Kathryn Tindall (Ensemble), Diana Vickers (Edmund/Covell), Jacinta Whyte (Maggie), and Jennifer Whyte (Keys).

The rest of the creative team includes Jasmine Swan (Set and Costume Designer), Zeynep Kepekli (Lighting Designer), Helen Atkinson (Sound Designer), Jennifer Whyte (Musical Supervisor and Orchestrations), Shelley Maxwell (Choreographer), Laura Cubitt (Puppetry Director), Tom Wright (Dramaturg), and Hazel Holder (Voice Coach).

An exclusive video performed by the cast of *Coven* of new track "Burn Our Bodies" has also been released.

*Coven* is a musical by Rebecca Brewer and Daisy Chute, who have spent over five years developing and perfecting this musical. Together, they’ve crafted a brilliant tale that is infused with folk-noir music, balancing powerful and uplifting pieces.

- In 2024, Daisy Chute earned a Grammy Award for her piece with Robert Thomas, “Murmuration,” which was inspired by starling murmurations.

*Coven* is a powerful women-led musical that tells the story of 9-year-old Jennet, who accuses her family of witchcraft. 21 years later, she finds herself accused; she’s imprisoned with witches she’s been taught to fear. As she hears their stories, she begins to question her faith and examine the long history of witchcraft. Together, 13 women rise above all that seeks to silence them. 

*Coven* is a musical filled with folk-noir music, featuring instruments such as mandolin, percussion, guitar, and even an angry banjo, as seen in songs like “She” and “Burn Our Bodies.” The show perfectly balances uplifting anthems alongside powerful melodies.

A witch hunt is raging and a 9-year-old Jennet accuses her own family of witchcraft. 21 years later, she finds herself imprisoned, surrounded by the most feared women in town. As the accuser becomes the accused, Jennet must confront a 250-year legacy of witchcraft and the dark secrets of her own past. As she listens to the shocking stories of the women around her, Jennet’s faith begins to crumble.

The Kiln Theatre, located in the heart of Kilburn in North West London, is a pillar in the world of London theatre. The venue is known for its focus on a variety of cultural perspectives, making it a key player in celebrating diversity in the arts. The 292-seat theater has seen a vast array of performances, spanning genres from classic plays and new dramas to real-life adaptations and revivals. Despite its modest size, the Kiln Theatre plays an important role in spearheading daring, forward-thinking, and inclusive productions. The venue underwent a major renovation in 2018, updating its interiors to further enhance the theatrical experience. It also hosted an array of workshops, educational activities and community events to emphasize public participation and engagement.

***How to Get to the Venue***

The Kiln Theatre is easily accessible by both public transport and car. It is a short two-minute walk from the Kilburn High Road overground station. For those coming by tube, the Kiln Theatre is situated around five minutes walk from Kilburn Park on the Bakerloo line, and Kilburn tube station on the Jubilee line. The theatre can also be reached via numerous bus routes that stop nearby on Kilburn High Road. If you prefer driving, however, there's limited street parking available nearby, but please note that parking restrictions apply on weekdays.
