Full cast revealed for Conor McPherson's 'The Weir'
The play is written and directed by acclaimed Irish playwright Conor McPherson, whose Girl From the North Country returns to the Old Vic this month.
The full cast has been announced for Conor McPherson's The Weir, starring Brendan Gleeson in his West End debut as Jack. Performances begin at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 12 September, running through 6 December.
The Brightening Air and Girl from the North Country writer will also direct a cast that includes Owen McDonnell (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve) as Brendan, Seán McGinley (That They May Face the Rising Sun, The Brightening Air) as Jim, Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, Wolf Hall) as Valerie, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Dancing at Lughnasa, Say Nothing) as Finbar.
Conor McPherson said, “I couldn’t be happier to be working with this brilliant cast. It’s always exciting embarking on a new production but to revisit The Weir in the company of these particularly accomplished artists feels like a singular privilege and I look forward to sharing this story with audiences in Dublin and London very soon.”
The Weir is set in a remote pub nestled in the Irish countryside, where a group of local men exchange eerie tales in an attempt to impress Valerie, a newcomer to the village. But when Valerie shares a haunting story of her own, her chilling revelations leave the group deeply unsettled.
The creative team also includes Rae Smith (set and costume design), Mark Henderson (lighting design), and Kevin Gleeson (sound design).
