The Harold Pinter Theatre will open with a collection of new plays from Sonia Friedman Productions. As part of the RE:EMERGE season, Amy Berryman's debut play Walden makes its West End debut, starring Gemma Arterton, from 22 May - 12 June.

Speaking about the season, which includes Walden , Sonia Friedman said: "After what has been such a devastating year for so many it fills me with the greatest joy and hope to announce RE:EMERGE, an SFP Season of bold, new work for a bold, new world as we begin to build back to the full reopening of British theatre. Amy Berryman's Walden depicts the intensity of familial love and loss as the climate emergency encroaches ever closer."

Walden sees Cassie, a NASA botanist living in a remote cabin after spending a year on the Moon. She's reunited with her estranged twin sister Stella, but as the sisters live alongside one another, old wounds come to the surface again.

Gemma Arterton will star in Walden, whose West End credits include Olivier Award-nominated performances in Nell Gwynn at the Apollo Theatre and Made in Dagenham at the Adelphi Theatre. Arterton is joined by Fehinti Balogun, recently in The Importance of Being Earnest at the Vaudeville Theatre, and King Charles III's Lydia Wilson.

Walden is written by Amy Berryman, whose critically acclaimed works include Epiphany and The New Galileos. Ian Rickson directs Walden, whose directorial credits include Uncle Vanya and Rosmersholm.

Other shows in the RE:EMERGE season include Anna X starring The Crown's Emma Corrin and J'Ouvert, seen at Theatre503 in 2019.

Walden is at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 22 May - 12 June.
