How to see Rachel Zegler perform "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from 'Evita'

Evita officially opens on 1 July, but large crowds are already appearing on Argyll Street in the West End to see Rachel Zegler perform the show's big number live.

She has more than just a little touch of star quality! Snow White and West Side Story actor Rachel Zegler is currently appearing in the title role of director Jamie Lloyd's bold revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Evita, which follows the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón from her early years seeking a better life in Buenos Aires, through to her rise to power.

The show is currently in its preview period and officially opens on 1 July, but it is already drawing large crowds every night as Zegler takes to the balcony of the London Palladium on Argyll Street to sing the show's big number "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" at the beginning of Act II.

The decision is in keeping with Lloyd's style as a director: just last year, his production of Romeo & Juliet saw Spiderman star Tom Holland on the roof of the Duke of York's Theatre, while the footage was blown up on a screen inside the venue. Meanwhile, in the Broadway transfer of Lloyd's multi-award-winning Sunset Boulevard, Tom Francis (who is currently playing the role of Joe Gillis through 6 July) can be seen on 44th Street during the title song of Sunset Boulevard, surrounded by the ensemble and a hard-working camera crew.

This directorial move goes beyond breaking the fourth wall and has divided people online, with the live experience outside the venue and the streamed footage inside offering different experiences. To see Zegler perform the number, you need to be in position on Argyll Street by 9pm for an evening show and 4pm for a matinee, as she opens Act II.

Experience both by catching her outside for a matinee performance and booking tickets to the evening show on LondonTheatre.co.uk — or vice versa!
