Initial casting announced for ‘Dick Whittington’ at the National Theatre

Pantomime fun returns to the National in December.

UPDATE: In a tweet on 4 November, full casting was confirmed. The cast includes Melanie La Barrie, Laura Checkley, Beth Hinton-Lever, Travis Kerry, Jaye Marshall, Ken Nguyen, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda and Christopher Tendai. 

Following news that the National Theatre will stage in-the-round performances of Dick Whittington, casting has been announced. The production will be performed at the Olivier Theatre for a Christmas season from 11 December to 23 Jan. 2021.

Initial casting includes Cleve September, best known for starring in the original West End cast of Hamilton. Dickie Beau, Amy Booth-Steel, Lawrence Hodgson-Mullings​ and Georgina Onuorah will also feature in the show.

Dick Whittington is adapted by Jude Christian and Cariad Lloyd, first performed at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2018. Directed by Ned Bennett, this adaptation sees Dick travel from a small town to live in a big city, exploring what it means to be part of a community.

The creative team for Dick Whittington includes scenic and costume designs by Georgia Lowe, choreography by Dannielle Rhimes Lecointe, lighting design by Jessica Hung Han Yun and sound design by Paul Arditti. Compositions, arrangements and music production is by DJ Walde.

Dick Whittington is at the Olivier Theatre from 11 December to 23 Jan. 2021.
