John Malkovich will play President Coriolanus Snow when The Hunger Games stage adaptation opens at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre in October. His character will appear via a screen in the show, rather than in person.
Malkovich was most recently seen in the West End in Bitter Wheat. On screen, he has starred in Bird Box, In the Line of Fire and Burn After Reading.
Malkovich said: "I’m delighted to join the World Premiere production of The Hunger Games in London, bringing this iconic story to the stage. Playing President Coriolanus Snow will be thrilling, because I have long been an admirer of Suzanne Collins’s novels, the films and Conor McPherson’s writing, and it is a privilege to take on this role."
He joins Mia Carragher as Katniss Everdeen, Euan Garrett as Peeta Mellark, Joshua Lacey as Haymitch Abernathy, Tristan Waterson as Gale Hawthorne, Tamsin Carroll as Effie Trinket, Stavros Demetraki as Caesar Flickerman, Nathan Ives-Moiba as Cinna and Mayor, Sophia Ally as Prim Everdeen and Ensemble, and Ruth Everett as Mrs. Everdeen and Ensemble.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ book and the hit motion picture of the same name, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen in a thrilling battle for survival as she competes against 23 young tributes.
The creative team includes Conor McPherson (adaptor), Matthew Dunster (director), Miriam Buether (set designer), Moi Tran (costume designer), Charlotte Broom (choreographer), Lucy Carter (lighting designer), Ian Dickinson for Autograph (sound designer), Tal Rosner (video designer), Chris Fisher (illusions), Kev McCurdy (fight director), Suspended Illusions (performer flying), and James Maloney (arranger, musical director & additional compositions).
