Marianne Elliott is set to direct a new production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic, starring Wendell Pierce and Sharon D Clarke.

Following her recent West End success with her revival of Company, Elliott will mount a new production of Miller's classic play about an ageing salesman and his family in 1940s New York.

Wendell Pierce will play Willy Loman, a businessman who returns from an unsuccessful sales trip as the pressure of providing starts to weigh on his mind. Pierce is best-known for his roles in the US TV series Suits and The Wire, and on stage in New York he has appeared in Brothers from the Bottom, Queenie, The Piano Lesson and Serious Money.

Sharon D Clarke is currently gearing up to star in the West End transfer on Caroline, or Change at the Playhouse Theatre. Her previous London theatre credits include Killer Queen in We Will Rock You and Oda Mae Brown in Ghost the Musical. She will play Willy's wife, Linda.

Death of a Salesman was last seen in the West End in 2015 at the Noel Coward Theatre, when the Royal Shakespeare Company's production starred Antony Sher and Harriet Walter.

It is the fourth major West End production of an Arthur Miller play announced for the first half of 2019, with The American Clock and All My Sons set to run at The Old Vic, and The Price announced to be revived at Wyndham's Theatre starring David Suchet.

Death of a Salesman is set to run at the Young Vic from May 2019.
