'Moulin Rouge!' announces West End casting

The musical begins performances at the Piccadilly Theatre November 12.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical has announced casting for the West End production. Moulin Rouge! The Musical begins performances at the Piccadilly Theatre from 12 November, with Moulin Rouge! The Musical tickets on sale now.

Jamie Bogyo will star as Christian, making his West End debut in the role. Liisi LaFontaine, who has previously starred as Deena in Dreamgirls on the West End, will star as Satine.

Two-time Olivier Award-nominee Clive Carter will play Harold Zidler. Simon Bailey will play the Duke, with Jason Pennycooke as Toulouse-Lautrec and Elia Lo Tauro as Santiago. The Lady M's will be played by Sophie Carmen Jones as Nini, Zoe Birkett as Arabia, Jonathan Bishop as Baby Doll and Timmika Ramsay as La Chocolat. 

The Moulin Rouge! The Musical cast is completed by Femi Akinfolarin, Robson Broad, Ian Carlyle, Jonathan Cordin, Anthony Cragg, Katie Ella Dunsden, Adam Gillian, Luke Jackson, Alicia Mencía, Ciro Lourencio Meulens, Georgia Morgan, Melissa Nettleford, Ian Oswald, Craig Ryder, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Katie Singh, Ope Sowande, Tanisha Spring, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Amy Thornton, Misty May Tindall, Jon Tsouras, Tommy Wade-Smith and Lily Wang.

Based on Baz Luhrmann's landmark 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical follows the writer Christian who falls in love with Satine, the star showgirl at the titular nightclub in Bohemian Paris at the turn of the 20th century. Like the movie, the stage adaptation is a jukebox musical featuring over 100 classic and contemporary pop songs as part of the score.

The musical first premiered on Broadway in New York in 2019, earning 14 Tony Award nominations. Now on the West End, the show begins performances at the Piccadilly Theatre on 12 November, with an opening night on 8 December.
