New Martin McDonagh play to star Jim Broadbent at Bridge Theatre

A new Martin McDonagh play will get its world premiere at the Bridge Theatre in London, and will star actor Jim Broadbent next autumn. 

Titled A Very Very Very Dark Matter, the play is set in a townhouse in Copenhagen where children's author Hans Christian Andersen works, but 'the true source of his stories dwells in his attic upstairs, her existence a dark secret kept from the outside world'.

Matthew Dunster will direct the piece, with designs by Anna Fleischle, and it will preview at the Bridge Theatre from 10th October 2018 and end on 29th December. 

Jim Broadbent appeared in McDonagh's play The Pillowman, which ran at the National Theatre, and is an Oscar winner for his role in the 2001 Richard Eyre film Iris. His stage credits also include A Christmas Carol (Noel Coward Theatre) and Theatre of Blood (National Theatre). 

The brainchild of Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr, the Bridge Theatre officially opened its doors last month with Hytner's production of Young Marx, Richard Bean's latest work which stars Rory Kinnear and Oliver Chris. 

Following Young Marx, Ben Whishaw is set to appear in an adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar from January, and Barney Norris' new play Nightfall is set to run from April. 

Casting and further creatives for A Very Very Very Dark Matter are yet to be announced, as is the remainder of the London Theatre Company's 2018 programme at the Bridge Theatre. 

A Very Very Very Dark Matter is set to run at the Bridge Theatre from 10th October to 29th December 2018.
