Following performances in Dublin and New York, the West End transfer of On Blueberry Hill will be staged at Trafalgar Studio One next year.

The 2017 play follows Christy and PJ as they share their lives over twenty years in Montjoy jail, becoming one another's best friends and their worst enemy at the same time. As Christy and PJ reflect on their lives, they uncover the events that have led them to where they are today, facing bittersweet consequences.

On Blueberry Hill is the latest play by Sebastian Barry, an Irish novelist and playwright whose works include the 2010 play Andersen's English and novels including A Long Long Way and The Secret Scripture, both nominated for the Man Booker Prize.

The Olivier Award-winning actor Niall Buggy will play Christy. As well as winning an Olivier for his performance in Dead Funny, his West End theatre credits include An Inspector Calls at the Playhouse Theatre and A Girl With a Pearl Earring at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

David Ganly will play PJ, currently starring in Girl From the North Country at the Gielgud Theatre, with further West End credits including Shakespeare in Love at the Noel Coward Theatre and The Full Monty at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

On Blueberry Hill will begin previews at Trafalgar Studio One on 5th March, ahead of an official opening night on 11th March, with performances to 2nd May.

Speaking of the show's West End transfer, Sebastian Barry said: "I'm so happy to hear the splendid news that the truly brilliant work of Niall Buggy, David Ganly, director Jim Culleton and all the crew at Fishamble, will be seen at the fabulous Trafalgar Studios. We all longed for a further life for characters Christy and PJ, holed up in Mountjoy Jail, and now here it is, wonderfully, in very best style."

On Blueberry Hill is at Trafalgar Studio One from 5th March.
