Taylor Swift is everywhere right now. Whether you’re celebrating her engagement to Travis Kelce, singing along to her songs while watching The Summer I Turned Pretty every Wednesday, or counting down the weeks to the release of her next studio album The Life of a Showgirl, the singer-songwriter is dominating popular culture.

She has also captured the imagination of musical theatre lovers by dropping Easter eggs about a potential musical project in a new podcast, which comes off the back of Swift trademarking the term “Female Rage: the Musical” during her Eras Tour last year. Plus, she’s teamed up with & Juliet songwriter Max Martin on her new album. For Swifties celebrating her proposal, or desperately awaiting The Life of a Showgirl, there are plenty of West End productions to scratch that itch. Check out our picks below.

Courtesan and Parisian nightclub performer Satine is the ultimate showgirl in this jukebox musical based on Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film. Taylor Swift may be missing from the list, but the musical is jam-packed with pop chart-toppers by other fierce singer-songwriters like Tina Turner, Adele, Katy Perry, and Sia. A musical based on a film starring Cher and Christina Aguilera? It doesn’t get more showgirl than that. This bling, glittering production could have walked straight off the album cover of The Life of a Showgirl. It is also helping to launch the career of rising star Jess Folley, who plays Ali and is described in the show by director, choreographer, and performer Todrick Hall as “Beyoncé trapped in a Taylor Swift body”.

Play
West End

Who doesn’t love a wedding? In Beth Steel’s play, which takes place over the course of one long, hot summer’s day, Sylvia and Marek are set to be wed. But family tensions and prejudices are bubbling beneath the surface, threatening to throw the day off course. This wedding in Mansfield may be a far cry from the fairytale aesthetic captured in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement shoot, but it realistically captures all the emotional messiness of a wedding.
