"Sweeney Todd" transfers to the New Ambassadors from 13 Oct 2004

The musical Sweeney Todd, will transfer from the Trafalgar Studios to the New Ambassadors Theatre on 13 Oct 2004. (Tickets are now on sale).

Sweeney Todd, which has music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler, from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, opened at the Trafalgar Studios in July this year to favourable notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "As sharp as ever...The versatility on offer is spectacular.." THE INDEPENDENT says, "Wonderfully fresh and fierce small-scale version." THE GUARDIAN says, "strong on melodramatic horror, low on social resonance." DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "Superbly inventive staging." THE TIMES says, "Theatrical originality and a successful awakening of the audience's imaginations."

The show ends its run at the Trafalgar Studios on 9 Oct 2004, and transfers to The New Ambassadors Theatre 13 Oct 2004 where it is taking bookings to 15 Jan 2005.

This Watermill Theatre production of Sweeney Todd is produced in the West End by Adam Kenwright, the Ambassador Theatre Group and Ted Tulchin.

It is directed & designed by John Doyle, with lighting by Richard G Jones.

This musical thriller is set in darkest Victorian England and tells the infamous tale of Sweeney Todd - the demon barber of Fleet Street - who seeks revenge when a malicious Judge frames him, ravages his young wife and kidnaps his daughter Johanna. Together with Mrs Lovett - the enterprising proprietress of the pie shop downstairs - the pair form an innovative business partnership cooking up blood-curdling results.
