'Waiting for Godot' announces full West End cast
Paddington and James Bond star Ben Whishaw and Game of Thrones actor Lucian Msamati are cast in Beckett's avant-garde play about the meaning of life.
The full West End cast has been set for Waiting for Godot, which opens at Theatre Royal Haymarket on 19 September.
Joining Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones, Amadeus) and Ben Whishaw (James Bond, Paddington), who will play the lead roles of Estragon and Vladimir, are Luca Fone, Alexander Joseph, and Ellis Pang sharing the role of The Boy and Dean Graham (Understudy Vladimir and Lucky) and David Lee-Jones (Understudy Estragon and Pozzo).
The rest of the cast includes Tom Edden (Crazy For You, Cyrano De Bergerac) as Lucky and Jonathan Slinger (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Richard II, Richard III) as Pozzo.
Director James Macdonald said, “One of the greatest and most radical plays ever written. Four extraordinary actors. A brilliant design for London's oldest and most beautiful playhouse. For me this is all beyond exciting.”
The creative team includes Rae Smith (Set and Costume Design), Bruno Poet (Lighting Design), Ian Dickinson and Niamh Gaffney for Autograph (Sound Design), Campbell Young Associates (Hair and Make-up Design), Hazel Holder (Voice Coach), and Max Harrison (Assistant Director).
Beckett's avant-garde play follows Vladimir and Estragon as they wait for the titular Godot, who never arrives.
