Journey alongside Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as they explore a brand-new mystery in Sherlock Holmes, Joel Horwood’s fast-paced, adventurous play. Book Sherlock Holmes tickets on London Theatre.
Sherlock Holmes is a play fresh on the scene after Holmes’ first major case. He finds himself feeling restless at 221B Baker Street until a mysterious woman arrives with a jewel and an unnerving problem. What follows is a chase through the capital and along the Thames as Holmes and his partner, Dr Watson, try to untangle an incredibly dangerous mystery rife with imperial power and ugly motives. Rather than retelling Conan Doyle’s story, Joel Horwood seeks to create a new case set in the world of Holmes, blending classic dynamics with a sharp understanding of colonialism and racism.
Sherlock Holmes in London is directed by Sean Holmes, and the production stars Joshua James as Sherlock Holmes and Jyuddah Jaymes as Dr Watson, with a broader company including Christopher Akrill, Andre Antonio, Will Brown, Paolo Guidi, Benjamin Harrold, Nadi Kemp-Sayfi, Marcia Lecky, Mervin Noronha, Yuyu Rau, Theo Reece, Rakhee Sharma, Tamara Tare, and Patrick Warner.
The show also boasts a formidable creative team, including set and co-costume designer Grace Smart, co-costume designer and supervisor Lisa Aitken, lighting designer Ryan Day, sound designer Elena Peña, and composer Jherek Bischoff.
This world premiere opens the 2026 season at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. It’s a big, ambitious piece that uses an open-air setting to throw Holmes and the audience into a more expansive London, being drawn into the play in an experience that feels wholly experiential. For audiences who love Sherlock Holmes or detective tales in general, Sherlock Holmes is a play that you are sure to enjoy.

Sherlock Holmes is best suited for those ages 12 and over. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or over, as production notes mention themes of racism, colonialism, violence, and references to drug use.
Sherlock Holmes is a gorgeous live-action revival of a classic story. It is ambitious and adaptive, and keeps to the central Holmes and Watson partnership that’s been beloved for well over a century.
