Abigail’s Party is a play set in Essex, 1977. Beverly is prepared to entertain her guests. The drinks are poured out, Demis Roussos is on the record player, and the hors d’oeuvres are waiting to be devoured. With her husband Laurence by her side, she welcomes new neighbours, Angela and Tony, over for drinks, along with her next-door neighbour, Sue.
But while Beverly presides over her suburban home like a queen in a castle, the real party is happening elsewhere. Sue’s teenage daughter, Abigail, is hosting a party next door, and the noise from the teenage upheaval becomes the backdrop to Beverly’s increasingly frustrating evening.
As alcohol is poured and politeness slips away, small talk boils down into flirtation, marriages are tested, and passive aggressiveness piles up. What is supposed to be a casual, enjoyable evening between neighbours turns into an ambush in Mike Leigh’s sharp production focusing on materialism and the suburban dream.
Abigail’s Party in London boasts Tamzin Outhwaite starring as Beverly, one of British theatre’s most iconic comedic characters, with Kevin Bishop as Laurence. The cast also includes Pandora Colin as Sue, Omar Malik as Tony, and Lauren Patel as Angela.
This West End transfer follows its Stratford East production and a UK tour. Abigail’s Party is written by Mike Leigh and directed by Nadia Fall, with set and costume design by Peter McKintosh, lighting design by Howard Harrison, and sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite.

A dated play where the coercive and controlling themes of the main character didn't sit well with me.
70s play with retro music and costumes and contemporary bang up to date themes. Class, consumerism, competitiveness,race and gender all served up with a great soundtrack, camp and amped up performance from Tamzin and all other cast were significantly present and compelling.Really had a brilliant time. A fresh and fun reworking of a suburban classic.
