'50 First Dates' musical to open at The Other Palace
The stage adaptation of the beloved romantic comedy film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore will play a limited London engagement starting in September.
A new musical adaptation of 50 First Dates is heading to The Other Palace in London. Performances will begin at the venue from 14 September, running through 16 November.
Georgina Castle (Mean Girls) and Josh St. Clair (Kinky Boots, Wicked international tour) lead the cast as Lucy Whitmore and Henry Roth in this show based on the 2004 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, about a romance that blossoms between a marine veterinarian and a young women with amnesia following a car accident.
Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, Hercules) will direct. The 50 First Dates musical is written by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen), based on George Wing’s screenplay.
The creative team also includes set and costume designer Fly Davis, lighting designer Aideen Malone, video designer George Reeve, sound designer Adam Fisher, hair and makeup designer Cynthia De La Rosa, orchestrator and arranger Matthew Jackson, and musical supervisor and musical director Richard Beadle.
“50 First Dates is one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time, and has also been one of my favorites ever since I first saw it," Nicholaw said in a statement. "After watching it about 50 times as my 'go to' movie on airplane flights, I realized it would really sing well and could be very special, so I began to start the ball rolling to turn it into a new stage musical.
"I’m so excited to direct and choreograph the world premiere of this new, funny and romantic show. I’m also thrilled to reunite with Georgina Castle after her phenomenal turn as Regina George in my production of Mean Girls, and to collaborate for the first time with the immensely talented Josh St. Clair. I can’t wait for London audiences to fall in love — again and again and again — when we open this September.”
