What is Secret Cinema?

Secret Cinema is an entertainment company founded in 2007 that specialises in immersive film and television-based events. It’s far more than a film screening, as it blends screen and live action in a unique experience. Audiences are encouraged to dress up, theme refreshments are available, and there are all sorts of supplementary activities and attractions. Previous offerings have included Back to the Future, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Dirty Dancing, and Moulin Rouge! What are some fun facts about The Pirates of The Caribbean?

• The Pirates of the Caribbean is inspired by the Disneyland attraction of the same name, which originally opened at the California park in 1967. It was the last ride to be personally overseen by Walt Disney himself. Since the film’s release in 2006, Disney has incorporated characters from the film into the experience.

• Johnny Depp based Captain Jack Sparrow’s character and mannerisms on the Rolling Stones’s Keith Richards. Richards went on to appear in two of the sequels as Sparrow’s father Captain Teague.

• Expectations were low as Disney’s recent foray into the pirate genre, the animated Treasure Planet (2002), had been a considerable flop. However, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl earned $13.5 million on the first day of its release and became the fourth highest-grossing film of 2003, as well as spawning four sequels.
