Alexandra Burke to join the cast of Chicago

Alexandra Burke will join the West End cast of Chicago at the Phoenix Theatre from Monday 13 August until Saturday 13 October 2018. Burke will be taking on the role of Roxie Hart.

She joins Martin Kemp as Billy Flynn, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly and Paul Rider as Amos Hart. 

Burke recently starred in the West End production of Chess at the London Coliseum. Her other theatre credits include The Bodyguard at the Dominion Theatre and the UK tour of Sister Act. She is perhaps best-known for winning the 5th series of ITV's 'The X Factor'. Her winner's single, "Hallelujah", reached number one in the UK Christmas Chart and went on to be crowned the top-selling single of 2008, selling over 1 million copies in the UK alone. 

Chicago returned to the West End after a 5 year absence, having run in London for 15 years from 1997. It features classic show tunes such as "All That Jazz", "Mr Cellophane", "Razzle Dazzle" and "We Both Reached for the Gun". It was also adapted into a Hollywood film starring Rene Zellweger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere which won the academy Award for Best Picture in 2003.

Chicago is at the Phoenix Theatre until 5 January 2019.
