Cinderella to open in the West End
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella will begin performances from September 2020, with details on casting, performance dates and a performance schedule to be announced. Reinventing the fairytale, the musical is based on an original idea by the Emmy Award-nominated Emerald Fennell, with Cinderella marking Lloyd Webber and Fennell’s collaborative debut.
Speaking about the musical, Lloyd Webber said: “I have long wanted to write my own version of Cinderella but could never find a take on the classic story that really grabbed me. Emerald Fennell has written something truly exciting and original, and the moment I read her outline I knew I’d found my latest collaborator.”
The upcoming production of Cinderella will feature a new version of the classic fairytale, written by Emerald Fennell. Workshop performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella was performed at The Other Palace in May 2019, with Mark Shenton saying it’s a “confident, funny, fresh & sassy contemporary tale of such a classic tale, a million miles from a panto but with some thrilling new showstoppers.”
The workshop performances starred Carrie Hope Fletcher in the titular role, Tyrone Huntley as Sebastian, Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as her stepmother, Sophie Isaacs and Rebecca Trehearn as the stepsisters, and Ruthie Henshall as the Queen.
