UPDATE: The Burlesque musical has officially set its U.K. premiere. This article was updated on 1 November 2023 with the most current information.

The world premiere of Burlesque, an adaptation of the 2010 movie musical of the same name, will take place in the U.K. next summer. The production will run at the Manchester Opera House for two weeks only, from 13-29 June.

It was announced on 29 September that a new musical adaptation of Burlesque was in the works, with Grammy Award-winning singer Christina Aguilera set to produce. The creators announced plans to debut the musical in the U.K. in the near future, as originally reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The Burlesque movie starred Aguilera as an up-and-coming singer at a Los Angeles burlesque lounge, whose owner, Tess (played by Cher on screen), fashions her into the main attraction. Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Julianne Hough, and Alan Cumming were also among the cast.

Steven Antin, who directed the Burlesque movie, wrote the script for the musical adaptation, which also features additional material by Kate Wetherhead. Multiple songs from the film — written by Aguilera, Diane Warren, and Sia — will appear alongside new songs by Todrick Hall and Jess Foley.

Information about casting for the Burlesque musical has yet to be set.
