Carrie Hope Fletcher to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella
Carrie Hope Fletcher is set to take on the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical version of Cinderella, which will open at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in August.
Fletcher, who played the role in workshop performances of the musical at The Other Palace, is currently playing Fantine in Les Miserables at the Sondheim Theatre, and has also starred in Mary Poppins, Heathers and The Addams Family.
She will star as Cinderella in the musical which has a new book by Killing Eve writer Emerald Fennell, music by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel.
It has been confirmed that Cinderella will run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 28th August 2020. Tickets for the production will go on sale on 20th March.
Announcing the casting, Lloyd Webber said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Carrie will be our Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre this Autumn. She has totally wowed my fellow writers and creative team and was a big success at the sing through of the show late last year.
"I am hugely confident that she will make this new take on Cinderella very much her own, and I'm looking forward to working and recording with her as soon as possible."
Cinderella will be directed by Laurence Connor, whose production of School of Rock will be making way for the new musical, with choreography by JoAnn Hunter, who also worked with Connor on School of Rock and his production of Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Further casting and creative appointments will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the casting and dates for the new musical, LW Theatres, which owns the venue, has announced internal upgrade works will take place which includes 'more toilets, refurbishment to areas of the auditorium and Front of House, as well as the potential increase in seating capacity on the circle level of the theatre.'
Cinderella is at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 28th August, with an official opening night on 23rd September.
Cinderella tickets go on sale on 20th March.
