Full casting has been announced for the upcoming innovative production at the Natural History Museum, which will chart Charles Darwin's maiden voyage on the HMS Beagle.

The Wider Earth will take place in a theatre space at London's fourth most visited museum, and uses a wide array of puppets to tell the story of the trip, which was Darwin's first aged 22, and bring the many animals and creatures that inspired his revolutionary theories to life.

Darwin will be played by Bradley Foster, who has previously appeared in Common at the National Theatre, and Lessons in Love and Violence at the Royal Opera House.

Three actors who appeared in the National Theatre's production of War Horse - Ian Houghton, Andrew Bridgmont and Matt Tait - will also appear in the production. They will be joined by Jack Parry-Jones, Marcello Cruz, Melisa Vaughn, Rory Fairbairn and Kim Scopes.

The Wider Earth is written and directed by Dead Puppet Society's creative director David Morton, and will run at the Natural History Museum from 2nd October, with an opening night on 12th October.

Announcing the cast, Nicholas Paine and David Morton of Dead Puppet Society said: "What makes this work special is its unique approach to storytelling, casting talented actors to play famous historical figures, who bring to life an array of incredible creatures through masterful puppetry.

"We're thrilled to be working with our original Australian creative team of Composers and Designers to stage The Wider Earth in such an incredible building."

The production will take place in a theatre set up in the Jerwood Gallery, which is located near the Charles Darwin wing of the museum, and audience members will have the opportunity to explore certain areas of the museum before performances and during the interval. This will give them a close-up view of some of the specimens collected during the voyage and showcased during the performance.

The Wider Earth is at the Natural History Museum from 2nd October.
