Cheek by Jowl to bring Périclès, Prince de Tyr to the Barbican Centre
Cheek by Jowl founders Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod have announced they will bring their French language production of Périclès, Prince de Tyr to the Barbican Centre in 2018.
Shakespeare's play sees Périclès lose his wife as he is shipwrecked on a Mediterranean island and forced to deal with pirates, magicians, brothels, kidnap attempts and attempts on his life.
It is directed by Donnellan with design by Ormerod, and the cast will feature Christophe Grégoire, Camille Cayol, Xavier Boiffier, Cécile Leterme, Valentine Catzéflis, Guillaume Pottier and Martin Nikonoff.
It premieres in France in March before a run at the Barbican Centre from 6th to 21st April 2018 (with an official opening on 9th April), and will also play Oxford as well as venues in France and Spain throughout the spring.
The company has also announced a new production of Francis Beaumont's The Knights of the Burning Pestle, co-produced by the Pushkin Theatre, Moscow. Beaumont's story is about a theatre production in London which is interrupted when a local greengrocer declares he wants to see a play where the common Londoner is celebrated.
The play will run in Russia for the first time in 2019, and it is expected to run in London as part of an international tour.
Périclès, Prince de Tyr is at the Barbican Centre from 6th - 21st April.
