Cloud Nine, by Caryl Churchill, opens at the Almeida Theatre 31 Oct 2007, following previews 25 Oct - running to 8 Dec 2007.

It is directed by Thea Sharrock, designed by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Peter Mumford, with sound by Gregory Clarke.

Set in colonial Africa and modern-day Britain the play is about relationships - between women and men, men and men, women and women. It is about sex, work, mothers, Africa, power, children, grandmothers, politics, money, Queen Victoria and sex.

Joining previously mentioned Stockard Channing (Bessie Berger) is, Trevor Cooper (Uncle Morty), Kieron Jecchinis (Schlosser), Paul Jesson (Myron Berger), Nigel Lindsay (Moe Axelrod), John Lloyd Fillingham (Sam Feinschreiber), John Rogan (Jacob), Ben Turner (Ralph Berger) and Jodie Whittaker (Hennie Berger).

Directed by Michael Attenborough, designed by Tim Shortall, lighting by Paul Pyant, with sound by John Leonard.

Starkly dramatic and vividly comic, Awake and Sing! tells the story of the Bergers, a lower-middle-class, three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the 1930s. The family, ruled over by strong-willed matriarch Bessie, long for a better world for themselves.
