Connie Fisher has returned to the role of ‘Maria’ in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium, following her enforced medical absence of two weeks (from Monday 5 – Saturday 17 March). On her doctor’s instructions, however, she will now be playing only six shows each week. From week commencing 26 March, Connie Fisher will not play the Monday evening or Wednesday matinee performances.

From week commencing 9 April 2007, these performances will be played by fellow “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” finalist Aoife Mulholland, currently starring as ‘Roxie Hart’ in the West End production of “Chicago” at the Cambridge Theatre (which she will continue to play until Saturday 31 March). Until that date, Sophie Bould will play ‘Maria’ for the performances that Connie Fisher will not be performing each week.

The cast currently includes: Lesley Garret (Mother Abbess, until 28 April), Alexander Hanson (Captain Von Trapp), Lauren Ward (The Baroness), Ian Gelder (Max).

The Sound of Music opened to mixed notices from the popular press on 15 Nov 2006, following previews from 3 Nov 2006: PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Adorable revival." The Sound of Music has music by Richard Rodgers, lyric Oscar Hammerstein II, Book by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, suggested by 'The Trapp Family Singers' by Maria Augusta Trapp

Produced by David Ian, The Really Useful Group (Andrew Lloyd Webber) and Live Nation, it is directed by Jeremy Sams, designed by Robert Jones, lighting by Mark Henderson , choreography by Arlene Phillips, sound by Mick Potter and musical supervision by Simon Lee.

The score for The Sound of Music includes My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd and of course the title song The Sound of Music.
