Daddy Cool postpones opening by 4 months!

Daddy Cool - Boney M Musical, has postponed its opening by 4 months at the Shaftesbury Theatre. It was to have opened in May 2006, but will now open 6 Sept 2006, following previews from 15 Aug 2006

A statement from Co-producer Robert Mackintosh said: "The creator/writer of the Boney M catalogue, Frank Farian and I have decided to put back the opening of Daddy Cool by 12 weeks, to spend more time in pre-production in order to achieve the technical and creative possibilities of the show, which, in the long run, we believe will be in the best interests of the show."

The £3 million musical will feature a cast of 35, led by Michelle Collins as nightclub owner ‘Ma Baker’, Solid Crew Member Harvey as ‘Shake’, the head of the SubSonic Kru, and Javine as ‘Asia Blue’, the lead singer in Ma Baker’s nightclub. Hope Augustus, Donovan F Blackwood, Kelle Bryan, Davie Fairbanks, Richard ‘Lianhart’ Francis, Duane O’ Garro, Alani Gibbon, Yasmin Kadi, Africa Nile, Ricky Norwood, Darvina Plante, Amber Rimmell, Ezra Russell, Kirisa Samuel, Marc Small, Emmanuel Sonubi, Maria Swainson, Ashlea Vernon, Dennis Victory, Larrington Walker, Shelley Williams, Jacqui Zvimba.

Set in multicultural London, to the music of 70s pop group Boney M (and other Frank Farian artists including Milli Vanilli and No Mercy), this new musical includes classics such as Rivers of Babylon, Brown Girl In The Ring, Ma Baker, Girl You Know It’s True, Where Do You Go, One Way Ticket, Mary’s Boychild.

Daddy Cool tells the story of ‘Sunny’, a young man who lives for his music. Caught up in local rivalry between East and West London crews, he meets and falls in love with ‘Rose’, daughter of the East End’s notorious club owner ‘Ma Baker’. Echoing Romeo and Juliet, the lovers’ relationship fuels the hostility between the two gangs, leaving their families face to face with past secrets and forcing them to confront their future.

With over 800 million sales of Boney M albums around the world, including 22 Number One hits, the group was a phenomenon and their music has reached far and wide during the past 30 years.

Daddy Cool is directed by American-born Andy Goldberg, with the book by writer Amani Naphtali. Gurinder Chadha is Creative Associate. Choreography is by Sean Cheesman. Set and Costume design is by Jon Morrell, with Lighting design by David Hersey and Sound by Nick Lister for Autograph.

With music from Boney M and Frank Farian Productions, Musical Supervision is by Mike Dixon with orchestrations by Steve Sidwell.

The musical will be produced by Robert Mackintosh and Frank Farian.
