Danny Sapani, Gary Beadle, Jo Martin to star in 'Mr Loverman' at the National Theatre

Natasha Gordon's (Nine Night) adaptation of Evaristo’s love story will be directed by Paulette Randall (Fences).

Bernardine Evaristo’s Mr Loverman has been adapted for the stage and will premiere in the National's Lyttelton Theatre, as part of the venue's 2027 season. The show will run from 26 February to 17 April 2027.

Natasha Gordon's (Nine Night) adaptation of Evaristo’s love story will be directed by Paulette Randall (Fences). The show follows family man and upstanding member of his community Barrington Walker, who has been hiding a secret relationship with his best friend for 60 years.

Initial casting includes Gary Beadle (Les Blancs) as Morris, Gabrielle Brooks (Get Up, Stand Up!) as Maxine/ Young Merty, Llewella Gideon (CARE) as Merty/Augustina, Terique Jarrett (DADDY) as Daniel/Young Barry, Jenny Jules (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Broadway) as Candaisy/Odette, Suzette Llewellyn (An Ideal Husband) as Asseleitha/Cynthia, Jo Martin (Doctor Who) as Carmel, and Danny Sapani (Les Blancs) as Barry.

The artistic team also includes set and costume designer Tim Hatley, lighting designer Tim Lutkin, movement director Shelley Maxwell, composer and music director Joseph Roberts, sound designer Carolyn Downing, wigs, hair and make-up designer Cynthia De La Rosa, dialect coach Hazel Holder, and voice coach Cathleen McCarron.

Further artistic team and casting are to be announced.
