Dickens Unplugged to close 29 June 2008

Dickens Unplugged, a new musical comedy journey through the best of Dickens' classic works, has posted early closing notices for 29 June 2008, after a run of only 5 weeks at the Comedy Theatre . ( The show was originaly booking to 21 Sep 2008)

A press statement says, "The producers wish to thank the talented cast, creative team and company for all their hard work and dedication to this production. Despite fantastic performances and enthusiastic audiences the ticket sales have not been sufficient and the producers have had to make the difficult decision to close the show."

Written & directed by Adam Long, Dickens Unplugged, opened 9 June 2008, following previews from 23 May 2008, to mixed notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "I fear...that Dickens Unplugged may soon be going down the plughole." DAILY EXPRESS says, "Highly original, fast-moving and witty."; THE INDEPENDENT says, "The trouble is that the material is thin and repetitive." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "The show is a lot of fun" THE TIMES says, "a glum recognition of the depths to which comedy can sink." THE DAILY MAIL says, "This is a show which gets funnier as it goes along."

It is designed by Lez Brotherston with lighting by Jon Clark.

The cast includes Joseph Attenborough, Matthew Hendrickson, Simon Jermond, Adam Long, Gabriel Vick
