The Secret Cinema production marks the first time the blockbuster film franchise has been adapted into a fully immersive theatrical experience.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure will feature "cinematic-scale immersive sets, live theatrical performances, dazzling stunts and a live band".
The show is based on the world of the first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which sees Captain Jack Sparrow and a blacksmith team up to rescue the governor's daughter, who has been kidnapped by pirates.
Subject to planning permission, the venue at Greenwich Peninsula will be Secret Cinema's new long-term home.
Merritt Baer, Artistic Director of Secret Cinema and Co-Founder of TodayTix, said: “Get ready for high jinks on the high seas! With epic aerial stunts, fearless swordfights and a cast of your favourite swashbuckling pirates, where better to invite audiences than raucous Tortuga and aboard the Black Pearl for the ultimate cinematic adventure: Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean.
"We can’t wait to open our new flagship venue at Greenwich Peninsula, minutes from The O2, with the world premiere of Secret Cinema presents Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure - a journey that we promise will blur the lines between film, theatre and live spectacle in Secret Cinema’s most ambitious production ever.”
Angelo Desimini, Senior Vice President, Licensed Partnerships & Brand Management, Disney Theatrical Group, added: “At Disney Theatrical Group, we are exploring bold new ways to expand our storytelling beyond the proscenium and into immersive, shared experiences. Pirates of the Caribbean is a franchise powered by adventure, music, and iconic characters, making it a world that naturally invites audiences to step inside it.
"Secret Cinema’s extraordinary craftsmanship and narrative ambition make them an ideal collaborator. Together, we are reimagining how fans engage with this beloved property, not as spectators but as participants in a live experience that is communal, cinematic, and unmistakably Disney.”
