Funny Girl transfers to the Savoy from April 2016

It has been announced that the upcoming revival of the 1964 hit Broadway musical Funny Girl starring Sheridan Smith in the role of Fanny Brice will transfer to the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, beginning performances on 9 April 2016.

The production runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 20 November to 5 March 2016, where the run has officially sold out.

Featuring a score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, book by Isobel Lennart, this new production will feature a revised book by Harvey Fierstein. It will mark the first London production since the 1966 original which ran at the Prince of Wales Theatre starring Barbra Streisand. It will be directed by Michael Mayer, with set design by Michael Pavelka, choreography by Lynne Page, lighting design by Mark Henderson and sound design by Richard Brooker.

The iconic musical charts the life of Fanny Brice, who rose from the Lower East Side of New York to become one of Broadway's biggest stars under producer Florenz Ziegfield. While she was cheered onstage as a great comedienne, offstage she faced a doomed relationship with the man she loved. Jule Styne's score features the classic songs "People", "You Are Woman, I Am Man" and "Don't Rain on My Parade".

The cast for the Menier production includes Sheridan Smith as 'Fanny Brice', Darius Campbell (Nick), Marilyn Cutts (Mrs Brice), Valda Aviks (Mrs. O'Malley), Natasha J Barnes (Emma/Mrs Meeker), Maurice Lane (Mr. Keeney), Bruce Montague (Ziegfeld), Joel Montague (Eddie) and Gay Soper (Mrs. Strakosh).

Priority booking for the Savoy transfer will open on Monday 9 November, with tickets going on general sale from Monday 16 November 2015.
