Hiran Abeysekera to lead Life of Pi cast at the Wyndham’s Theatre

The full casting for Life of Pi's West End transfer has been announced, ahead of opening at the Wyndham's Theatre this summer. Based on Yann Martel's Man Booker Prize-winning novel, Lolita Chakrabati's award-winning stage adaptation transfers from Sheffield to London, with members of the original cast reprising their performances in the upcoming West End production.

Hiran Abeysekera to play Pi

Following his performance as the titular character in Sheffield, Hiran Abeysekera will reprise the role of Pi at the Wyndham's Theatre. Best known for his performance as Pi, he's also appeared in Peter Pan, Royal Shakespeare Company productions of Cymbeline and Hamlet and a production of Tartuffe. Abeysekera can also be seen on screen as Dash Khan in Hulu's Find Me In Paris.

Full cast sets sail to London

The full cast of Life of Pi is completed by Mina Anwar as Ma, Sagar Arya as Pa, Tom Espiner as Father Martin/Commander Grant-Jones, Kirsten Foster as Lulu Chen, Raj Ghatak as Mamaji/Pandit-Ji, Sarah Kameela Impey as Rani, Syreeta Kumar as Mrs Biology/Zaida Khan, Habib Nasib Nader as Cook/Voice of Richard Parker and David K.S. Tse as Mr Okamoto.

Tom Larkin and Tommy Luther will be the Tiger Head, Fred Davis, Daisy Franks as the Tiger Hind and Romina Hytten and Scarlet Wilderink as the Tiger Heart.

About Life of Pi

Based on the four-time Academy Award-winning 2012 movie of the same name, Life of Pi follows a sixteen year old boy who is left stranded in the Pacific Ocean, with animals for company. As he fights for their survival, Pi undergoes a journey of endurance and strength in order to stay alive.

Life of Pi received its world premiere at the Sheffield Crucible in 2019, winning four awards at the 2019 UK Theatre Awards including best new play, best performance in a play for Hiran Abeysekra and best design.

Life of Pi features puppetry by Finn Caldwell, with previous puppetry credits including Groundhog Day, The Elephantom and War Horse. The creative team also features direction by Max Webster, scenic and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Tim Lutkin and sound design by Carolyn Downing.
